Nirvana del Risco is the first black Cuban woman who openly and fearlessly confronts the prejudices that many of her compatriots hide: homophobia, racism, political mistrust, fear and a certain intimacy with the enemy. A daughter of the 60s generation and a rebel in Havana in the 2000s, she explores the path between the forbidden and the sacred, revealing the occult spells that lie deep within Afro Cuban culture. Revealing rituals passed down through dynasties of Cuban magic, which few openly accept, as she explores the complex balance between race, sex, politics and religion.
